Hello everyone.

I like the game so much, so I thought to give it a go at creating or updating ports that were not in the game, and that I have not found on the couple of sites I am aware of.

My 1st attempt was at updating the Malé port in the Maldives done by avangarde79 and then modified by me Wink

I will be sending zip files to StickyMonk that has offered to host them. I will be creating a simple website in the future to host them too, but his is website is much better and with more links too ( i have done some templates only at the moment), not to mention he has the experiance. Very Happy The ports the I am emailing him will include images too. Unfortunately, i am not that good at making them fully compatible, due to size of the original image, and then needing to have the 4 corners edited to have the 'framing' done, or adding a 'bar' on the top and bottom or left / right part of the image to look nicer in the window. The image needs to be 320 x 240, of which is not an easy thing to do with images found on the net.

Update: Zootier has re-done the images, and we have agreed that a maximum of 4 pictures would be adequate for each port. He is also kind enough to host them on his site.
You can find Zootiers site here:
http://www.zootierspocshipyard.de.vu/

I will be using this thread for the ports that I am doing. This original message will be edited to include the XML file that is to be put in the "user_addons\harbors" folder.

Please note that I will not take requests at this point, until I complete all the ports I have in the works. At this moment, that is about 10 ports. in general geography, those are: Australia - 6 (Alofi, Norfolk Island, Tonga,Cocos [Keeling] Islands,Christmas Island, Cook islands) Asia - 3 (Cebu, Iloilo, Dili), Greece - 3 (Patra, Tinos, Syros).

If you notice something that needs to be changed in the file, please let me know, so the files can be updated.

At this stage, I would try to keep the zip files under 400-500kb. Others will have more more pictures, others less. I am looking at including a minimum of 2-3 pictures and more when I can find them.on average I am aiming at around 5 or more.

It is a labor of love, and i do a fair amount of research of each place... learning a few things along the way too, not just wikipedia. The biggest delays are in the images, and then after getting those done, testing the location in the game, and then checking that the images work and the map too.

Edit: Please note that the exchange rates are different! They are the current exchange rates as on the day when I was creating the XML. The AUD & NZD I have found to be very outdated! Especially the AUD. So please, update to the ones I have put in my files, or change them to the ones that are in the game.

This is a small island nation that has NO container facility, and is serviced by general bulk ships, that the containers get opened on the ship, and unloaded to whale boats, and then they go to the pier and get off loaded by a crane. You will be able to see some pics with that process and others of the island.
So this port gets only a dry bulk, general cargo and airport. (y,g,a)

This is a mainly military base.
Military base. Some civilians (Philippino and Sri Lankan) employees, the rest are military personel from the U.S. and U.K.
GBP is now the official currency. The U.S.$ is also in use. The official currency for that region is the B.I.O.T. ??? is not known to be in use. Here is a picture and other info.
There is a large port and airport. Chartered airplanes also arrive there for the civilians. When and if the Chagosians are allowed to come back, Copra and Coconut oil should be added to the game. That was the previous items exported.
Civilian population (indiginus) was 2000. Now it is 3500.
Strikes non-existant.
No contraband, and would most probably be found.
Drydocks? none that i found, but there are submarine facilities according to some sites.

This town has the main port for this island nation. They produce fish and Noni Juice. Who ever has not installed Stickymonk's Fruit Juice (Fruchtsaft), can go to his site or to Bugbears site. Else, you can remove the good from the xml.
Edit: Removed comments about co-ordinates. Thanks to RedEvil for teaching me more about how to change items.

Tanga is the second largest port in Tanzania. The port is in the north of the Country, near the border with Kenya. It has been proposed to have a deep sea dredging to enable it larger ships.
The hempf is due to the Sisol hemp. There is also fuel that the port accepts, meters were to be put in though due to corruption. The freights that have been added is due to me trawling through various sites with much useful info for the products available.

It is a very interesting port, created upon request by ANR over here.

This was once a very important port in Greece, but it has declined in recent decades. It now only has mainly Tourists, a dry-dock, and some textiles. I have made two maps for this place, since i could not decide which one is better. Both are included in the zip file i have prepared.

This island is mostly a laid back tourist island. As per wiki:
"Tinos is also the center of a yearly pilgrimage that takes place on the date of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary (August 15, "Dekapentavgoustos" in Greek). This is perhaps the most notable and still active yearly pilgrimage in the region of the eastern Mediterranean." I have been there a very long time ago, and there are NO rooms available from early August until the 16-17 August. So this would be better suited to cruise ships perhaps... There is NO airport, but there is a Heliport to the south of the island. Sorry, no personal photos, either way, they would have been more than 20 years old now... but, there are many harbi images Wink

Here is my next port, Patra, it is one of the major ports on the eastern side of Greece, and is on the 'water road' connecting Greece with Italy and the rest of Western Europe.
I could not find info for Petroleum, so I have not included it. It handles many items, and produces many items, especially Wine, fruits and fruit juices, cement, and use to have many textiles in the past, and now just a few companies are left, but now is mostly in fashion. It has many tech industries too and biotech.

I hope you enjoy this harbour. I can't decide at the moment my next port, if it will be a Greek (Irakleion anyone) one again, or a Philippine or a Pacific/ Indian Ocean Island.

I have gathered the images for many ports, now I am just collecting the information so I can do the harbours Wink

I think I will do a small very old basic program to give me a random answer, hehe. Just joking.

For those that are interested, you should be able to find all the cargo at the normal places, i.e. Zootier's, Stickymonk's and Big Bears.

Now besides those items, if you are able to find the goods, you can manually add: olives,130,olive oil,110,oranges,110,

This port is also a major transit port where goods are offloaded and then forwarded to other ports with smaller ships. They also have some of the best olive oil and olives out of all of Greece, but then again, every region can claim that...

Edit: Re-done the freight due to spelling (shortening) of name for two items. The following items were fixed:
Vegetables & Fruits.

Thank you ANR for pointing it out.

This port also has some dry dock facilities. These have NOT BEEN ADDED for the simple reason that they are very small. They were suitable only upto a couple of thousand tons... of which would not have been fair to add it, since many ships in the game are over 2000 tons... Wink
Some info on a dry-dock:
http://www.tradekey.com/product_view/id/267316.htm for info on dry-dock This was just a company that I was able to find, while searching for info on dry-docks Rolling Eyes If someone has more info, that would be great.

Also, they have more products these are:
Seaweed - I am actually surprised that no one has it in the game Wink it is a very common comodity in Asia Smile
http://concise.britannica.com/dday/print?articleId=117362&fullArticle=true&tocId=53990 This link has some great info about Kiribati and its economy. As you can see, wikipedia is not the only good source of info Very Happy

So, in total of absent products, that would be: Seaweed, clothing, and beverages.
Here is the info for Kiribati from Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiribati

I hope that is enough info for you guys.

Update: The location is: 1°21′N 172°56′E or
Coordinate 1° 21′ 0″ N, 172° 56′ 0″ E Decimal 1.35°, 172.933333° Unfortunately, these show up in the water instead of on the edge of the island. Personally, i prefer seeing the port on the map next to or on land.

This port is becoming a larger port, it is growing to a major port for the south island and is regularly serviced. It has a huge variety of goods going through it, actually a lot of things are imported and exported. It is also my 1st port that i use a map for a port instead of a satellite image, since i found one very easy.

I had some conflicting info, so some of the data might be correct, others not. This is especially true for the petroleum side of things... Also remember that this port is in a fairly common war zone, but shipping seems to be "ok".
------------------
That is all for now.

Notice:
1. If anyone would like these ports, they can email me. My email is in my profile. No spam please. The reason that I will not reply to PM's is that I am having problems with the forum sending me emails that I have PM's, but when I log in, there is nothing there to read!
2. The images I have are not fully optimised for the game. What I mean is, that a couple might be slightly smaller than the 320x240 size for harbi, but nearly all the pictures are correctly re-sized.
3. I have not installed software and don't have the time to do the corners to match the cabin window when you are in a harbour either.
4. If anyone is interested in doing this for pictures, please be my guest, and then share them Rolling Eyes Wink

You can use the orginal Co-ordinates!
This will result in the following values:
x = -1699 and y = 191!

Notice that the values for x are between -1800 and 1800 and for y between -900 and 900!
So 1899 for x is the same as -1701 because you are on a circle.

Thanks RedEvil,
Still getting use to the when to use the positive and negatives, since personally I have found it confusing with some co-ordinates when converting from the East - West & the North - South.
I will update the file here to reflect this.

Hello everyone.

Zootier has been kind enough to rework my images to have the corners edited to match properly for the city views when you are in the harbor. He is also hosting now my ports on his site for everyone to download.

A slight change that he has done, is to also put Diego Garcia to belong to Asia. That is fine with me, since it is in the middle of the ocean.

So go ahead, and visit Zootiers site, and include which ever harbours you are interested in.

I would like to mention that Tinos and Ermoupolis are indistinguishable on the world map, due to their close proximity to each another, but if you move the mouse over them, you will notice that there are two ports.

You can find Zootiers site here:
http://www.zootierspocshipyard.de.vu/

You can also find many other things there too.

Hello to everyone.

I would like to inform everyone that is following my thread, that I might be slowing down this week, due to... well due to that I would like to take a break and enjoy the game a little more, rather than creating all the harbours that I like, and adding some images to ports that I want and are close to me (that is what I will be doing this week actually).

Hopefully sometime duriong this week, I will have enouggh time to modify my game and add all the ports I can from the known sites, and the goods too.

After I complete that, I will also do a list of all the ports that are available, or at least that I can locate, so I will not be doing any duplicates. That way, I can see what impact my ports are making to the game (how many more dots are added hehe Rolling Eyes ) In case you haven't noticed, I like building smaller ports, and 'tranquil' ones at that. I still have my own list to go through too, still many ports/ harbours to come for the pacific and a couple for the indian ocean/ south west asia, oh yes, and a surprise port in New Zealand... oh what the heck, it will be... Port of Timaru - New Zealand - South Island, since there is only one port for that big country... in the North. Actually, that is my next port, but it will come slowly, unless I get more free time.

Anyway, as always, I hope you enjoy my ports, and remember to visit Zootiers site to download them in a zip file. Just remember, that any port I post, will not be ready until the following Wednesday, when Zootier updates his site. So if you have some patience, you will be able to have the whole package Smile

Hmmm.... now Melbourne and Queen Victoria (Cunards Cruise/ Liner ship), need to add some pics of that to my game, plus the two ships, QE2 & QV in Sydney, now those will be great.

If anyone wants to search for pictures of these ships, here is a google search tip:
Melboure: Station Pier Queen Victoria
Sydney: Sydney Queen Victoria QE2

great pics for Sydney located here: http://www.news.com.au/travel/gallery/0,26362,%205029811-007153-4,00.html

take care,
Aries1470

p.s. For those that want to know what I will be doing on Friday, look at this schedule http://www.portofmelbourne.com/cruiseshipping/cruiseschedule.asp
Please note: If anyone would want any of the photo's that I will take, it will only be at a distance and only the left side of the ship (as you are facing the front of the ship, on your right side) and at a distance. The reason is, that the pier closes to public, and there are not that many good vantage points for public.

If anyone would like more details, please go here: http://www.queen-victoria.com.au/html/

If any of the ships builders would like me to take a picture of another cruise ship, please let me know, and then remind me closer to the date. Depends if I can make it, there will be absolutly no promises that I will be able to get there Sad due to many reasons.

Hello to All,
could you please assist me in what i am doing? What i mean is, if ANYONE has done any of the ports, and they are complete and fully tested, and available for download, somewhere, where I might have missed them, or are already in your game, and you have tested them, and researched that the products actually exist in those cities Rolling Eyes Razz then please let me know, so I will not have to do them Smile

This is my full personal list. This contains my completed and ports to be done, and some with what priority I gave them. I don't know if I will ever do all of them though.

My speed has been reduced to 1 port every 7-10 days approximately, instead of my previous, of which use to be every couple of days.

So here is my personal list:

All the ports that I have lined up are a fair amount. So here goes:
Asia:

Male - Maldives - Done
Diego Garcia - Indian Ocean - Asia(?) - Done
Dili - Timor Leste ( East Timor) - Done
Guam - Asia
Cebu - Philippines
Iloilo - Philippines
Those are at this moment for Asia

Europe (Greece):

Tinos - Done
Chania - Crete
Patra - Done
Syros - Done
Irakleio - Done

Africa:

Tanga - Tanzania - Done
Kerguelen Islands-French Southern and Antarctic Lands-Done
Mauritius - Still searching for various info - low priority
Some other ports are being considered, but will be waiting until I have done all the others in my list.

Australia:

Cook islands-later
Christmas Island-later
Norfolk Island-done
Niue-done
Solomon Islands
Cocos [Keeling] Islands
Vanuatu
Tuvalu
Nuku'alofa - Tonga-Done
Betio - Kiribati - Done
Nauru

To be done at a later time...
Marshall Islands
American Samoa
New Caledonia
Northern Mariana Islands
Wallis & Futuna Islands
Micronesia
French Polynesia
Pitcairn

South America

Galapagos Islands
Hanga Roa - Easter Island http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanga_Roa and this is another reason I wanted to have the Pacific as its own area... http://journals.worldnomads.com/stowaway/post/940.aspx

The reason that there are so many ports in "Australia" is due to that the Pacific Ocean is so vast, but actually empty (devoid) in that area of the game (area) of many ports, not to mention that there are some great looking places too, or even unknown to most people Wink and that is why I lobbied (ok, suggested) for adding that area in the game as an independent continent, you can read about it hereso that way, it would bring attention to people that play the game will say, "hey, lets see what info I can find for that place". But I guess that is just me Very Happy

So please, if anyone has completed them, maybe they can get in contact with one of the people that host a website, PM them, and ask them kindly to host your ports on their site Wink

Thanks in advance.
