At the risk that this has been asked for in the past (only I can't see it in the forum) would it be possible to deal with ships Laying Up a little differently?

At present, one stipulates a period of time for a ship to Lay Up and has to renew this, pehaps every day if you are laying a ship up on a daily basis. This can also mean that you miss an opportunity to use a ship at short notice should a cargo turn up when it is laid up for a period of days.

Could this be changed so that, when you lay up a ship, the details of the ships name, the port in which it is laying up and the date it was laid up could be placed in a special pop-up box? The ship could then be 'forgotten about' until you need it again when it could be retrieved from the box by, say, clicking on the ship name?

Just an idea, but it would save an awful lot of play time when you have several ships laid up at the same time Smile - and you could get them working again immediately if they were required at short notice.

Thanks very much for that - my idea is that when you lay a ship up, you are laying it up for an indefinite period of time - rather than deciding how many days it will be laid up for.

Then it is up to you, the player, as to when you return the ship to service.
Would that be relatively simple to incorporate in a future update?

yes thats easy to implement, I suggest a upper limit of 99 days or 365 days not to forget a ship completely as this will sink if not maintained.

Thanks for taking this one on board - it will really help Very Happy

If I set a high level of maintenance in the Maintenance section of the office window would this not ensure any laid up ships are maintained whilst they are idle?

BTW Have downloaded the update and it looks very nice - especially moving the cost/t to where it can be easily seen. However, I seem to have lost the ability to set the speed the game gets through a 24 hour period - each day now passes like lightning!! Surprised

maybe you could click on a checkbox in the lay up menu
"wait for freight over XX$/ton" the worth one could set by enter a value in a text field, so the ship ends up the laying up, when there's a profitable
freight at that harbor.

Idea That would be a very good idea - the ship would then reappear and you could then decide whether or not to take the cargo or continue to lay it up Smile

Thanks - could you let me know when it can be downloaded so I can update the package again?

I have given some more thought to the Lay-Up proposal:

Firstly, with respect to Christian, I now think that the idea of bringing the ship back into play when a certain XX$/Ton value is too easy!

A player should know which ships are laid up - and where. I would like to see a system where when you want a ship to be laid up you go into the usual place and click on Lay-Up - and that's it!

When you want to reinstate a ship - for whatever reason - you then have to go to the office and reinstate it from there - after all, it would be a 'Managerial Decision' wouldn't it?

In the 'Office Lay-up' box there should be a list of laid-up ships with where they are and the date on which they were laid up. To reinstate a ship, there should be a set period of time during which it is readied for the high seas again, say:

1 day for up to a 14 day Lay up period, 2 days for up to a month and then an additional day for each subsequent month (or part of). Perhaps longer periods for larger ships.

As I said before, just a suggestion but what do you think?

Maybe Christians idea is too simple, but PoC doesn't really give a a good overview of things. If you have a lot of ships (I once had over 140) in 1 game it's impossible to keep track of all reserved freights, lay ups, repairs and other stuff.

Hi RDK

Has this feature been put on the back burner as I notice it wasn't in the latest update? Sad
