Hi to all
I've just bought a platinum licence yesterday. Anyway, i"m experiencing trouble running Sim3d II. Got last rev 1.63. Right when loading screen appears, i've got that familiar Windows error report telling poc3dsimII.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.
I'm using XP SP3, an E8500 dual core CPU, 4Gb of RAM and an ATI HD3870 X2 graphic card running 8.10 Catalyst drivers.
I've tried to end every unecessary processes prior to launch sim3D without better results. Since i'm using a dual boot system, i also tried to launch it under Vista with exact same problem.
I just don't know what to do, i'm out of clues... Has anyone encountered the same problem??
[EDIT]
Ok, i think i might have found a solution. Some friend just lended me his copy of POC2008. Since it seems to use POCSim3dII also, i have simply overwrite the entire media folder using the one from poc2008, and it seems to work. Now my question is, wich files could have gone wrong with my system? Having used poc2008, am i going to experience missing contempts? |

try to use the full installer of pocsim3dii again,
a mix beteween pocsim3dii and poc 2008 might have other problems, but maybe some parts have not been loaded, as its really similar, poc2008 is even more demanding on the load part.
Also download the latest direct x 9.0c package from microsoft. |

download another install and reinstalling didn't worked. Directx 9c also.
I'll try and overwrite one specific folder after another in the media folder to isolate wich one is making trouble. That is, providing the problem is not due to more than one folder. See if it helps for you |

Ok, i've found the solution.
Problem was in the shaders folder. You get two files there that has file extension .fx
Now rename them to ***.fxo and there it works! I just can't figure out why it works as .fx with everyone else... |

I tried to update with the runtime.exe which didn't work (after installation procedure was due I still had the v. 1.62).
I then downloaded the full installer satisfactorily, ...
... and my shapes folder looks like this

So far I have no problem running pocsim3dii

you should delete the *.fx files, they are not supposed to be there, can lead to incompatible files,
dont rename them the fxo is the compiled latest version,
for the next update I will try to add an autodelete,
if this does not work, let me know, then we need to supply only the fx files as these are the sources and compiled on the fly -- but this takes a little bit, the fxo are faster (and also the fxo code is tested). |
