Hi,
One of my ships just sunk despite being in quite good (well over 70%) condition...
Is that because the ship is very old or can any ship randomly sink at any time?

Thanks for your answers!

What kind of ship was it?

You can overload containerships and theywill sink,
if they are overloaded more than 30% !!

The ship was the mclean, the 33kn one.
I never overloaded it and send the ships to repair when they fall below 80% condition exactly to avoid this kind of accidents.
It was after 2010 so I suspect there may be an increased chance of sinking with age.

Now I'm left without a 30+ ship for ultra quick deliveries and don't have enough status to buy ships similar in speed...

I wonder if Rdklein could comment on this...

have to look into the code, but some areas are dangerous and with old ships even more and at storm if you go through for example you can decrease the condition also dramatically.

If you have autosave on, you can load an old version and start from there.

In my case it sank near the Suez channel, after over 40 years of service...

40 years is really long, the age is important of course.

Well, there is no ship as fast as that for 50 years after it comes into the game, so I had to keep it alive as long as possible... Made me excellent margins despite the nominal high fuel compsumption..

Maybe the freight is of interest. Once I had "Hakune Maru" loaded with some sort of chemicals. The status of the ship decreased from 80% to 19% transporting these chemicals over a distance of about 9000 nm. I got the ship into the harbour by increasing the maintenance to maximum (the status was at 50% at that time) und reloading the game a few times. But that was with the Classic Edition from Astragon.

Yes, some sustances increase the corrosion level
by a high amount. e.g. Phosphoric acid, ...
You can check the xml file to get this information.

Regards,
