relation of marketing, status and freight rates

hi,
I'm a little curious if and how your status actually
influences your freight rates and how advertising
affects your status.

after playing for a while in "Anfänger"(Beginner?) mode
from 1975-86, boosting my status to ~32 by manual docking,
then switching off the 2d simulator, i only got a status
increase thru buying some hightech/ special ships.
though i made quite a pile(1.25 billion USD),
it has not affected my status.

regardless of newspaper-/TV or no ads at all,
my status remains the same at 58.

the manual states that advertising should increase your status
and freight rates, but i yet have to see it happen.

my maintenance is set to the 2nd highest for all my ships("passend").

do these higher status/freight rates only happen in a
higher difficulty setting or am I missing sth. completely?

bei uns (wir spielen zu zweit) hat nur solide handarbeit und fleissiges schiffekaufen zr statuserhöhung geführt
der verkauf eines alten schiffes kostet die hälfte an statuspunkten, die man für den kauf bekommen hat "schiffshandel" bringt auch punkte, die preise schwanken auch
der wartungslevel sollte immer >brilliant< sein(sobald man es sich leisten kann Wink

) warum?
ein schiff mit zustand 73% wird dann alleine durch die wartung binnen kurzer zeit auf ~80-84% gebracht so muss es nicht ins teure dock
aber vor der jungfernfahrt sollte es mindestens 70% haben und später nie 80% unterschreiten(vermeidet sturmschäden wenn man mal durchfährt)

hi stk,

you can reach 10 stat points by taking the first advertising
if you take the expensive one your status increases to 20.
above this limit the marketing only affects the freight rates, not the
status. so the best strategy would be to get 20 status points by marketing
and then the things you did.

Has anything changed with the marketing since this topic was posted?

What exactly is the effect marketing has on freight rates?

I never notice any difference, and if obtaining a status of 10 or 20 is all it does, marketing really needs a workover in future versions...

The marketing increases the chance of getting freights for very good money.
But usually you have only few time, so you need good (fast) ships to deliver them in time.
