hi looks very good, I just finished the new router which works now, now I have to adjust several parameters and then I think we can have the first beta, I expect it to be around 3-5 weeks or so.

We will have the new router also later on for pocxxl, its based on digitized routes finding the shortest path, for smallwater it was a must, as the waterways are more fractal and this counts for the length and we have also a flow direction and lots of locks,
for xxl for some parts this might be good (still thinking on a mix),
also for the upcoming online version this is very helpful.

does anybody has some values on fuel consumption dependant on the speed,
especially for low speed
so for example:
spit needs about max 200 liter/day with maybe 5 kn
kempenaar 350 liter/day
europaship 1000 liter/day

how about with 1 kn 2 kn...
any real values also help...

I'd have to dig around a bit more
But Engines of the size used in a Spits use about 3-4 liters/hour to idle
to reach a slow speed (over water) of say2 or 3 km/h my guess would be 5 to 7 liter/hr
All out, 10 to 14km/h I'd suspect something between 30 to 45 liters hour.

I shall have to do some asking around to get more specific.
The whole issue isn't what ship the engine is in but its rated size versus actual required output at any given speed, which of course increases with the size of the ship Smile

Specific average consumption for "Binnenschiffe" is 1.3 liter @ 100ton/kilometer, so a Spits weighing 100 tons and having a payload of 365 tons would roughly use 5 to 6 liters per km or about 55 to 60 liters per hour based on average speed of about 10 to 12 km/h (waterspeed)
that would be 1460 liter in 24 hours.

So base consumption should be easily scaleable based on tonnage size of the ship.

below an excerpt of the log of the Picaro.
It clearly shows the difference in speed, rpm and fuel consumption based on current... downhill on a full river they went as fast as 16km/h

Zaterdag 17
Maart Na het ontbijt ga ik meteen boenen, om het vastdrogen van de dauw voor te zijn. Als ik begin is het water nog een beetje zout, maar voor ik eens klaar ben is het zoet en schoon. De heuvels in de verte zijn roze van de bloesem… zucht, hadden we maar een dagje over! De sluismeester van Saint-Gilles wil ons ruimaanveegsel wel hebben voor zijn tuin, daar komen we dus ook weer mooi vanaf. Op de Petit-Rhône lopen we 9,5 kilometer met 1200 toeren, op de Grand Rhône nog maar 6,5 bij 1400 toeren. Nog 280 kilometer naar Lyon… En wááien dat het hier doet, toch blij dat we niet leeg op hoeven! Boven Beaucaire loopt het beter, daar komen we af en toe weer aan de 9 km/h.

I just work on implementing the lock delay times, currently I set them to an average of 15 min (which will also need to set the simulation tick to 15 min), which seems to be a good value - any suggestions ? !

If it works better for the game maybe as low as 10 minutes, although thats
pushing it...
I suspect that 15 minutes per Lock is a good average value by the end of the day, when doing 20 or so locks.

yes thats one of the next issues, I work on the new router but will be ready quickly and some of th events have to be adapted, then the first beta can go out.
The last updates for xxl I need needed to transfer to smallwater also then we are ready (I can use the new developer machine then and be still compatible with older machines) for new updates (the new machine help developing much faster than the old one

Will the first beta be available for free for everyone? Does it have to be bought like XXL? Is it the same kind of beta as XXL was for years? What exactly are the features? Is it interchangable with XXL (combining sea freight and inland freight and such?

In other words: Can you give us details about the first beta?

yes it will be free for everyone like xxl,
a license will enable the sml more than 1 hours option, like with xxl.
Datafiles are compatible, but there is a new routing system. YOu can generate it with google earth when exporting the KML files for a route with some attributes which you will see in my samples ((like locks, speed of the water and real length of the route). When addin new towns each town mus also get a set of routes, connecting it to the other towns (at least one in the game). I will provide some sample sfor addons also.
YOu have a near infinite resolution on the routes with this system (GPS quality) as mucha s google earth can provide.
