Being an old reefer man myself and the reefer trade being one of the most profitable, i would like to have some more banana loading ports in the caribean and west coast south america. (turbo and santa marta/colombia, port limon/costa rica, guayaquil/ecuador for instance. from colombia alone an daily amount of 15 to 20000 tons of bananas is being shipped to europe) furthermore i suggest to add some more and faster reefer vessels. even in the 1970ties the 'bananenjaeger' have been making 23 knots instead of the mere 15 knots of geest bay.
other main reefer trades are f.i. kiwis/apples from new zealand to zeebruegge, apples/grapes from south africa to europe, citrus fruit from los angeles to japan, apples/grapes/vegetables from valparaiso to california and many more.

what ya think ?

I simply added "Tropical Fruit" to the goods file and then added that to the harbor files of those harbors I thought have such an item.

I totally agree with your comment about the "Geestbay" and that reminds me of the reefer fleet sold to the Soviets by Schulte & Bruns? in 1964 or so to the Soviets, one of which capsized as it left the Dock of B&V after repairs without ballast ...they were all about 5000 tdw and quite fast.

I you have any fotos or side drawings (and particulars) I can build a few reefers from those days.

Happy banana hunting Wink

This might be a silly question and perhaps the answer is somewhere out here and I overlooked it, but how do you determine the coordinates of the port you want to add? Are the lat/lon or some cartesian coordinates, or something else?

I was wondering this myself, if anyone has a tutorial on how to do it I would really apreciate it.

Just one question, will changing the game in anyway upset any further official downloads?

It won't upset the new download but any download will wipe out your changes unless you save the modified file someplace.
So for my euro coaster game I have a file that is labeled as such.
same with all the ships I added, a copy is parked someplace else.

Basically lat / long. example: Hamburg : x99, x is longitude and in this case indicates that Hamburg is 99 clicks east of London, if it was x-99 it be west of london Smile
y -535, the minus is north of the equator. south of there (like Sydney) would be y535 or some such.
Any Atlas with a grid will do for the purpose.
Murmansk won't work, there is some sort of cut off in the game at around 68 degrees or x-680..
here is Bodų as an example:

And of course with the help of an Atlas with a grid you can figure out where this place is?
It is the capital and major port of Bearovia , a rather friendly place that always has a load for everyone Smile
The currency is blueberries, the exchange rate was the price at the local supermarket the day I did it, I even used a calculator, so its very scientific Wink

Exactly like this one Patrick !
Unfortunately a bit too much of an angle to incorporate into the game...

Your website is one of my favoreds btw Smile

Especially the Sietas section, since a few of the ships I worked on were built by Sietas, Similar to the Kismet and the Wagrien

Thanks guys, I'll think I stick to the easy way. I just get the coordinates using google earth or worldwind...it should do the trick.

I don“t really know, if there“s oil in Point Hope. I don“t used the port because of missing reloading possibilities.

There should be an oil and gas harbour at the us-west coast.

All at all Rotterdam,Houston and Djakarta are too less good harbours for tankers.

I dont know either, but currently the 3d sim+xxl need all types of berths otherwise its undefined to find a berth place (but we can have empty places for example or places in the water just for mooring around for example).

Those of you who already have made new harbours, why don“t you place the xml file in a forum, so other migth benefit of it, or even better, send them to RDK, and he could maybe get some help from us, the users, to make the layout for the harbours, info“s and so on. Just another thougth from my confused head. Very Happy

I can access a large database with info about almost any harbour in the world, an maybe make a drawing of the harbours structure, but then again, i dont got a copy of corel draw, but i can make a rough drawing with measures in meters, of the the quays.

I don“t know if any one in here fancy this idea !?
