Hi,

How hard would it be to implement a very much realistic occurence?
I was thinking of divers coming to inspect the vessel after each collision to reconfirm the vessel's class.
I am playing for days now and grew weary of maneuvering manually. Not paying too much attention, I rammed pretty much every dock & every shoal (before switching to "no simulation"). Normally, with each collision and grounding, the classification society needs to re-inspect the vessel, which includes divers to check the hull for holes or dented areas. In the event I imagine, you would be forces to berth again, lose a day, and, if your vessel is in bad shape, be commanded to the shipyard before leaving. There, you would have to repair up to a certain amount (depending on the ship's shape).
There would be two kinds: emergency repair (allowing to travel to the next port with a suitable dock) which would be more time-consuming because the local workshop would do the job. They have suboptimal equipment and expertise, but after 2 days, you would be able to leave the harbour for the next one with a big enough dock.
Second option is, of course, proceeding to a yard at exactly that port you are in (think I remember that was possible in Classic, when the ship threatened to sink immediately).
Base line is losing money, destroying carefully planned schedules (reserved freight in danger!), losing time (freight on board?) and having a handy event.
Unfortunately, I am not able to supply information on the average duration as well as costs of this (Insurance would obviously not pay for this because, man you must have been wasted to hit THAT rock! Rolling Eyes ). Any help from the professionals therefore is appreciated.

I am adding a poll on this - always wanted to do that!!!

Cheers,
Horst

What would happen if you are in a port without repair facilities for your kind of ship?

Bregalad, they would weld steel plates to your crate or use pontons to enable you to reach the next port where repairs can be done, but repairs there are then mandatory.
It would also be thinkable that the ship is unloaded and sold "as is, where is" if it is useless after the accident. But this would perhaps be too harsh, so we can leave that out for the start.

Life is tough, at least on captains demolishing expensive infrastructure and/or other peoples assets. After all, all would be in your hands, wouldn't it?

Cheers,
Horst

Often times, there is no repair facility near by and the ship simply cannot make the voyage. In this case, it is declared a constructive loss and if it cannot be pulled into somewhere where it can be scrapped, the ship will be scuttled where she sits ie. they sink her.

Speaking of divers, I come from a family of divers and sailors, and one thing I see a lot is divers being called to ships to scrape off barnacles, or clean out the bow thrusters, just as a matter of regular maintenance.

This sounds like a great idea for a new event in the game. I hope it will be available soon. Cool
