a problem of making a good called "vessel" is that one ship is to heavy
for one tug so some tugs have to share one ship wthout splitting it
(what would be unrealistic). A solution could be to make a poc ships called
"tug group" which contains maybe 3 tugs and the power of the tugs needed to is summed up so that you could transport "ships"

Here is what I did : I took cargo code 7 and changed it from Bitumen to
"Atow" the "A" important since it allows this cargo to be sorted to the top of the freight market list (frachtbörse)
then I changed the tugs to SPECIAL TANKER code 99 and code 7
then I added this cargo in several ports.
As it is this works and each tug hauls as much "tow" as its horsepower permits, since I have tugs from 500 kw to 30 000 kw that means my tugs
can haul loads from 1000 tons to 60 000 tons.
From reading around I came to the conclusion that a tug can pull about twice its horsepower at 10 to 12 knots, this is obviously not very scientific..
The drawback is that all tugs are now tankers and technically can haul ANY tanker cargo ...
of course I could just leave them as CARGO CARGO and show the tdw as twice of the horsepower that would do the same.
the main difference between a tug and a normal freighter is simply that the shown tdw is not carried ON the tug but pulled BEHIND it ...
What we need is a code from RDK for "TOW" and tugs .....
example below:

So esssentially we need RDK to activate a Code then the cargo "TOW"
can be added anyplace but only picked up by a designated tug
Maybe he could stuff a code in there on the next update?
Actually this was discussed quite a while back and RDK said that adding such a code was easy ... _________________ Frohe Reise, Bearsie. |

I played a whole game with this set up and it looks ok, but I think I will convert them back to normal cargo, although tugs dont care if there is oil or coal on the barge... but then I'd have to make 2 xml files for each tug ... and a 3rd for hauling cars to Alaska!
2/3rds of the traffic to and from Alaska is done by tug and barge, look it up ... the type I have on my website as ATB _________________ Frohe Reise, Bearsie.

I just dug out some info on the Miki class sea going US Navy tug from WW II fame, I almost bought one lying in Florida in 96
over 60 were build, some single engine (Miki) and some twin engine (Miki Miki) all around 1800 kw. it should appear in the fleet soon
Also I see Stickymonk has a Adsteam tug which I duly incorporated into my fleet
Almost forgot that the bearovian fleet also has 4 tug/barge combinations
which would act like normal freighters/tankers in the game.
ATB dry and tank (12000 tons) - push
Haniel VII 6400 tons (Rheinschub) - push
Sachsen (Elbschub) 4200 tons - push
Havarie (tug and coaster combo) 850 tons - pull _________________ Frohe Reise, Bearsie.

Hi Bearsie,
so the tugssplit the cargo like every ship splits a too large cargo?

i suspect that is because the used tugs are ice breaking ones?

No ice breaking needed usually, it has to do with crewing requirements
and the fact that they can leave the barge sit there, like a warehouse
and come and get it next season, these are big units Foss of Seattle does a lot of that and Coos Bay towing too

Yes, because the computer shows different size cargo's called "Atow"
so the tug takes what it can handle
added: of course on the picture you just see a tug _________________ Frohe Reise, Bearsie. |

Would be nice to activate several special codes, such as bulk goods (grain, coal, iron ore ect.) one for gas so you could no longer load gas into a crude carrier, one for cement (then I might make some more cement carriers), one for heavy lift ships such as the Mighty Servent class of ships, plus there is bound to be others.
not sure is RDK looks in this forum so it might be worth emailing them.... _________________ Cheers

Well, he has promised to do something about the different cargoes. Especially the tankers are a problem atm. You can carry gas in a crude oil tanker, or combine yet fuel and crude oil in a gas tanker.
RDK has promised to take a look into this and try to figure something out. Don't know when this is gonna happen though. _________________ Freight Containers In The Port Of Antwerp |

Es darf gesegelt werden, sogar mit Fracht
You may sail, even with cargo
5 new load carrying Windjammers on the website.
From 400 to 3100 tons, from 9.5 knots to 17.7 knots
Almost all the data for the ships is off their respective websites
and fairly accurate, except for the build dates.

Added the Tug "Miki" to the website, a rather successful
west coast design, all wood.
After the war they served in the commercial fleets
until their size and horsepower was no longer enough
for the job, increased size of barges and all that.
A few still survive in private hands
I'd move the <baujahr> to 1953. makes it easier on the maintenance

Stickymonk Industries LLC is currently deploying bulldozers
at an undisclosed location along the Thames River to create a berth large enough for the Emma Maersk
Bearovia: general clean up and moving around of pages.
2 new ships added to the high tech page: year of build, 2004, 8000 tdw, 14 knots
Tug cargo (temporary) added to cargo page _________________ Frohe Reise, Bearsie. |
