Hello Rolf,
In the game we come across bad weather. We have the choice of going through or sail around. However when ships do meet Tsunami or tidal waves they have no choice. I suggest that you incorporate Tsunami in the game. Since they cause devastating damage I suggest that the Tsunami are 'Force 1' or 'Force 2' or 'Force 3'. The damage to the ships will be 10 or 20 or 30% depending with Force they come across. Unless the ship is in very good condition it will sink.

Back on land the ship owner who's ship has sunk is also fined for water pollution depending on the cargo. For example a tanker is fined more that a ship carrying washing machines

Christian
The idea of shipping is to have the ship in good condition. Your first trip income should always go to do repairs

Tsunami or tidal waves

A nice idea, I will think how to implement, as this should be a rare instance and affect all ships in a certain region.

Tsunamis are only a problem while in port. On the open sea they're as good as invisible, travelling at some 600-800 kph in the form of a pressure wave.

I suppose tidal waves behave pretty much the same way.

What's far more common and dangerous are the giant waves formed when high winds in one direction meet a fast surface stream moving in the opposite direction. Then waves 20-30 m high can form easily.
Satellite surveys have shown that this phenomenon is fairly common off the south coast of South Africa.
The easy way to avoid these waves is to stay away from the dangerous areas.

Cheers
Olle
