				|
 |

For it's my first post I like to say hello to the community.
I play pocxxl since a few weeks and I noticed that old ships and such which poor
conditions have extremely high maintenance costs. Is there a formula like this
http://www.rdkleinforum.de/viewtopic.php?t=2365 with which one can calculate
 the maintenance costs ?

 Thanks for any info.

				| There probably is a formula, but I don't know it.
To me it's sufficient to know that
 - a ship in poor condition need immediate repair, rather than maintenance.
 - once the condition is up, maintenance becomes profitable.
 - the maintenance cost also depends on the corrosion factor (ship age). Old ships are more expensive to maintain, and the condition level that maintenance alone is able too keep is lower.

Therefore I opt to use ships that are less than five years old, which corresponds to keeping a condition level >95% at the maximum maintenance level.
This way I only need to repair the ships if they've bee shelled or have suffered other accidents.

 Cheers
 Olle

				| Price x age x use, or some such
usually if you keep the ships above 80% you should be safe from storm damage and sinkings

 And welcome to the game

				| Thanks for answers welcome.
Maintenance itself is not the problem. I try to hold the conditions over 90%
because the costs rise too high and I have yet started my first game on expert
where it becomes somehow relevant. But good to know that even in the 80ies ships
 can stand most storms.

I'd like to know an exact formula, because I try to make a little Excel tool for calculating
the net profit of a journey. I even made some data collections in my games but didn't
find any clear realtions to corrosion factor or anything. What I found was, that date
of purchase seems to be a factor not (only?) the year of construction. Seems I have
to take a deeper look into it. I also could think of BRTs or operation costs having
influence. Would be nice to know

				| There is a column in the ship office called Ship Statistic, that will show you the expense / profit per trip, as long as you remember to go there and look _________________

I try to avoid those ports where I can expect to get shelled. (Basra, Umm Qasr, Monrovia and some more.)

I don't know if you only looked at maintanaince costs.
But there is already a excelsheet for calculating the profit/loss per trip.

Yes maintenance is the relevant thing. It's the last main issue I was
looking for. Nevertheless, thanks for this link. If I'd knew it before,
I think I hadn't started my own one. But now it's finished (w/o maintenance),
only little polishing to do. It's a bit different because I implemented a TEU
calculator. So you know how much TEUs you can reserve/load if you're
limited by tons. Think I'll share it on monday.

 Edit
Maybe a Dev could have a look in their documentation to give some
info on the maintenance costs ?

				| If somenone likes to try, here's the MS Excel file and one for the OpenOffice.org 2.0 pendant packed in a rar file on rapidshare.

If it doesn't work or you don't like it just diss me.

 Have fun with it.

				| As near I could make it.
Think I could have put in the ReadMe right here.

 je eine Version für
.xls = MS Excel Version Office 2000
 .ods = OpenOffice.org Version 2.0

 Calculation of profit :
Insert up to 20 names of ships in the lower chart and choose a type for them. Choose the name in the upper left and
insert the TEUs and tons from the offering. Now you get the amount of fright your ship can load. If you enter the result
of the offering you get the reduced revenue according to the loaded fright. Based upon the knots, distance and operating
costs, remainig fuel and net profit are calculated. With additional specifications like waiting time, penalties, actual
maintenance, deadline... etc the result will become more accurate.
The ships listed in Schiffstabelle are those from Version 99.48 but you add any ship you like.

 Gewinnberechnung :
