The highly modern ( at the time of build) steam dredger "Eimerbagger"
ex Viscount Ridley has been added to the "high tech" page.
Built on the Clyde around 1920 or so, I sold it to the Dutch Wink
It would normally dredge and load the fill onto barges, since I didnt feel like adding a barge and a vessel without payload is no good,
I made it 2400 tons, assuming that it could dig about 100 tons an hour.
If the dredger experts tell me it's less I can always lower the pay load Very Happy

Got brand new short sea trader from niknekmann in the works and 2 more dredgers.
Alas not much is happening lately due to 70 hour weeks and out of town travel... Sad

First Update in 3 months....

Tanker Olympic Mountain.
A DSR Coaster from the very early 50's.
Port of Bandar Shapur (now khomeini) Iran.
A Binnenschiff (Rijnshep) on the Kanal page. For this I added 2 xml files, as Tanker and as cargo, of course it is Dutch and shows the van Ommeren colors.

And the piece de resistance Wink

A "Bay Steamer" (Fördedampfer) from 1885, the Sonderburg.
The ship was owned by the Flensburger & Sonderburger.
It was used to travel the new Kiel Kanal to Hamburg and back
and was so successful that the company later build 2 more similar steamers albeit slightly larger. Details can be found at the web site of the Deutsche Schiffsmuseum in Bremerhaven, as well as a paper model SPAM *** Smile

I had to "fudge" (gemogelt) the size and tonnage a bit to push her over 300 tdw. The original was probably closer to just below 200 tdw.
Also added links on the Link Page and the harbor page to all fellow harbor builders.
As usual I set the date of build at 1962, feel free to change that at your pleasure.

I have about 500 more ship plans and such, but rarely enough time to act on all my idea's and frankly I do like to play the game to relax after long hours at work.

Greetings to all fellow players from Bearovia, Bearsie Very Happy

Website with some history here : http://werften.fischtown.de/archiv/sieghold1.html

New off the slip: "MS Molliette", 1919 uk. I sold her to France Smile

An auxilary schooner with concrete hull, 300 tdw.
Located on the: Oldies but Goldies page.
In real life she probably didn't make more than 8 knots...

http://mysite.verizon.net/ress3y0n

Just about the last concrete ship I had plans for and info on.

Yup, as far back as around 1910 in Norway and Denmark.
During WWI and WWII in the USA and the UK and Germany.
The last about 60 coasters, USA made bigger ones, somewhere between 7000 and 12 000 tons I believe.
By total tonnage built the UK is the leader, even until today.
Concrete ships are very corrosion resistant (low maintenance), drawback is the high weight of the hull in relation to pay load.
I have some url's flying about someplace if you are interested.

i cant imagine that it's possibile to make profit with these vessels as the fuel consumption an related cost should takes back the costs you saved at the maintainance. but maybe these ships were more resistant against subliner attacks while the wars...

Quite correct. Since the fuel cost is determined by total weight a concrete ship will always use more fuel per ton carried and that is enough to not make a profit...
Although modern material science ( especially at the University of Munich and Magdeburg) would allow to close the weight gap to a point.
Then you get into the problem that there is no experienced staff which can work with concrete.
Some of that research is sponsored by Dyckerhoff and Weiss (?)
And there is an annual concrete canoe race (Betonkanu Wettbewerb)
You might like that idea Very Happy
For you it will be easy to visit a concrete coaster, one is a Disco in Bremen.
Just google : Betonschiff Treue. The other is a Museum ship in Rostock (Capella)

DSR coaster Mitzlow, 720 tdw, 1971.
Quite a few were delivered to Norway.
The ship could haul containers, around 60 Teu or so.
I only made the xml as freighter. Wink
