As far as I know there is no US shoreline to the Hudson Bay, this piece of water belongs totally to Canada.
Wikipedia reads:
"The Hudson Bay is navigable, but of minor importance" ... "The only Arctic, deep water port in Canada is located at Churchill, Manitoba".
Churchill has a population of about 930

I made Murmansk and it is sleeping in my file storage for better times.
With the current poc version you cannot reach ports north of a certain latitude (don't remember the exact figure), but certainly Murmansk is too far north.
There was a discussion about this matter long time ago in this forum. Try searching ....

just checked my files:
There is another reason why I stopped trying to put this port into the game. Murmansk was military area up to 1991, prohibited zone for foreign trader. |

Regarding Churchill, it is a seasonal port (mid-June to early November) with it being iced over the rest of the year. It is really an export only port with only wheat being internationally shipped from it. The port does serve as an important supply port for communities in northern Canada. It has a capacity for 4 decent sized bulk cargo ships to load wheat and one more for offloading cargo (maybe once or twice a year someone orders fertilizer through the port).
I spent several months working at the port in Churchill loading cargo barges for shipping mining and other supplies up north.
Honestly speaking, unless you really wish to bend reality, it is not really a viable port and beyond a curiosity shouldn't be put in the game. (much like Port Alfred, Quebec and Stanley, Falkland Islands, shouldn't be in the game-- why would a a place with 3000 people want 550000 tons of electronics?!?)
anyways, for those interested, there are photos of Churchill here: http://web.mac.com/pipit/Main/My_Albums/Pages/Churchill.html
Enjoy.... |

Hi Pipit,
could you check your page please. I cannot start any of your photo series, 'play slideshow' won't work.

It is not that lovely of a place (though it is, during tourist season, a rather active and social place). Cold in the winter (think -40s without wind). |
