Entering New Orleans (substituted by the port of New York) with the Treylon I crashed the vessel down to 70 percent without knowing why.

I was proceeding up the river with 16 kts and the Statue of Liberty had just come into sight when it happend. The only vehicle around, a small barge sailing downriver, was far off on starboard side and out of danger. I definitely did'nt hit it. The barge proceeded and I encountered a big bang and received a crash message.

Was I too fast on the river or did I hit an underwater obstruction (not listed on the chart) or is it a bug?

The radar was clean, no shallows, no other shipping. I will make another attemp and come back then.

All-clear !
No bug, probably captain's fault Embarassed (he is awfully sorry).

I made several entries into the port tonight and discovered many chances to crash the vessel.
There are fairway buoys on both sides of the channel which are not displayed on the radar,
there are ferries crossing the fairway which are displayed on the radar too late to avert danger of collision,
and there is a big shallow area where the fairway splits up. This area cannot be seen from the bridge (of course not, it's under water), is it in the chart - I do not remember? But it's on the radar screen Shocked (sonar?).

I probably hit a ferry approaching from port while I was busy to keep wide berth to the barge on starboard side.

But this scene was not totally in vain, it displayed some features of the radar system which could be improved:
The range is too small (s. above),
bouys should be equipped with a radar reflector,
a rotating sweep with flashing and diminishing targets would be a nice approach to reality (already mentioned in the forum),
and skip the little boat in the center of the screen.

Again sorry to have troubled you.
Regards Peter

hi peter,

you can change the range of the radar by pressing
+ (enlarges the range)
- (decreases the range)

@rdklein
the ferrys as well as the sailboats are sometimes really annoying
because they stop, when they come in the range of the containership.
if they stop in front of of ones ship it's almost impossibile to sail arond them.

Hi CT,

thanks for the hint. There are surley more functions which I did not discovered yet. Is there a complete instruction file somewhere? The online help file contains no advice to hot keys.
