An unnecessarily long voyage from Picton to Lyttleton! This incompetent master made an excursion around the southern tip of NZ and arrived two days later in Lyttleton. And no way to show him the shortcut through the Cook Strait (less than 200 nm instead of 1.000 nm) Shocked

Hopefully waiting for the new routing system RDK has promised.

Afaik RDK doesn't guarantee that the add-on harbours all work flawlessly. Wink

you need to modify the router maps and add a path there (e.g. some pixels might do).

I see - as yet the Cook Strait is not declared navigable.
Is that something the Add-On makers can do? I have no idea how to proceed.
BTW it would be nice if the Kiel Canal can also be put into service Very Happy

Its no problem to change the mask files, so the Cook Strait and even the Kiel Canal are possible.

I have though about integrating the Kiel Canal some time ago, but after some research i have discarded the idea because:
- the canal would be free, and thats not realistic.
- the chanal is smaler than the panama canal (max. waterdeep 11 meters, max. high of ships 42m because of the bridges). So the most ships used in PoC are not able to use the Kiel canal. In PoC you can only
distinguish between Panamx, Suezmax and Capesize passages, so there is no way to integrate this limitations.

The problem with modified mask files is that they are overwritten with every PoC Update.

Yeah, I agree to all you say about the Kiel Canal. That would be a lot of work for the RDK-team to integrate it into the game for just a small benefit.
But when Bearsie continues work on his Baltic-POC project, the Kiel Canal will be a must to establish.

I've searched for "mask files" and found only files like map3mask.png, map4mask.png, and map5mask.png - maps, where continents are white and seas are black. All three look the same to me. I could easily color some pixels black and thus make the Cook Strait navigable. But are these the right files to change? Have all three to be done?

I hope we soon can go to the new routing system,
which I used already in poc2008 deluxe and sml (internal),

I now work on a concept to combien both, as if you add harbours and dont add new routes you will run in a problem (and for cionversion from the old to the new system),

but lwith the new system a new route can be added with attributes like canal fee max width depth number of locks etc.
each route has a start and end point - of course you need a couple of dummy points to handle different routes, but this works rather good and you have a much more precise length for canals etc (I use a length attrbute if available also attributes like current (which can be + or - and a speed for the current).

YOu can add routes then by using the google earth export funktion (.kml files). just add a map route and add some of the attributes and I can use it

-- but some things hve to be done for a dynamic check (checks etc.,) for addon of the new route system.
