Hello all,

I am trying to understand if there is a preferred port where to repair ships at the lowest fare. Do you know if repair costs are determined randomly, or if there is a parameter in the port .xml file?

After a few tests, I think costs are random, but I'd like to hear also your opinion on this.

Best regards,

Nerby

Hello Nerby,

there are basic prices determined in the xml fieles of the ports.
These basic prices change with the economic situation in the game.
rdklein has an algorithmus, which simulates an economic conjunction cycle.

does that help?

Best Regards,
Christian Todt

Thanks, which is the field used? I would like to determine which is the best port where to make repairs, so that if I find a charter to that port I can plan to repair the ship there.

Best Regards,

Based on the standard ports i can recommend you to repair your vessels at Kingston (Jamaica) which has unbelievabel low repair costs.

I'd have to get down to playing poc to give ou a more detailed answer also regarding the addon ports, for which i don't have the time at the moment.

Best regards,
Christian

Thank you very much! Kingston sounds really interesting, because it's also a very good port for tankers.

For a Standard Game Kingston (Jamaica), Amsterdam and Kingston (Canada) have the lowest repair costs.
But they only have Panamax docks, so you could not repair big ships there.

Hi,

I agree what Christian Todt and Zootier say. Big Ships (Tankers) you can repair to lowest costīs in :

Europe
Copenhagen
Aarhus
Antwerpen
Barcelona
Pireus

Africa
Cape Town

Middle East
Dubai

Asia
Busan

Australia
Freemantle
Auckland
Sidney

south America
not available

north America
Los Angelos
San Fransisco
Seatle
Vancouver
Miami

Named Ports have Cost Indexes from 100 to aboat 115. 100 must need to repair Ships over Panmax- Size.

Greetings
Manni (FrancisBrake)

Hi all,

as in previous posts the function of ship repair in poc is determined through parameter <repda> as calculated by RDK. that apparently combines some logical values (ie cost, size)

I personally found- after checking world shipyard index- particulars in existing drydocks that do not match sizes of game as stated in "repda".

An example in South Africa ports:

Cape Town --> repda=100 , actual dims (LxB) =360 x 45 meters means
ability to repair big ships

Durban --> repda 75, actual dims= 352 x 34 meters seems to be
preferable for drydocking for a similar dead weight ship.

If anyone intersted to view those details under
www.infomarine.gr/shipyards is an initial info provided per country

My opinion is to rechecking the existing parameter in default town.xml files and also to user addons whenever offered.

Greetings
cbisti

Hi cbisti

No,no. "Repda" does not determine the size of a dock, but itīs a cost index. Composed with a another intern index, that reflects the economic situation and the continuos price increase, calculated the cost of shipyards repairing. But Panmax vessels can not repair below an repda - index of 100.

thanking you FrancisBrake for clarification

any user could be confused retrieving former posts about repair function.
I still doubt about the repda value entered to some ports

Piraeus shipyrads can accommodate vessels till 500000 dwt (L=421,B=75)
but in game the user is redirect to another (bigger) port for repairing a panamax ship.
Wich value of repda would you use instead of 100?

Hi cbisti.

Gosh, tough question. You should orient itself well to the other shipyards in the area. So see their "Repda" - value, and mandating the value within this margin.

Or you have to research the exact cost of the shipyards in the area, the only likely be nearly impossible. Rolling Eyes

It is the <repda> line
while anything below 100 is cheap, it will not do panamax, you have to go 100 or higher. ist is simply a programm denominator like daily freight and some others. They do not correspond exactly to dollars but will change the price.

But in a Game that spans 45 Years and has ports that are no longer important and misses many that are. How important is it to have "exact" numbers? If so, for what Year?

Take Fuel, we used to buy it for 60 Dollars a ton in the 60's obviously you don't get fuel for that price anymore. So a compromise has to be reached.

Personally I simply raised the value to 105 in ports thatI know have large Yards. But then, I also deleted ports and added others.

Regards, Bearsie
