I think that the player can earn the money to fast

I started with $5 mio. in 2003
My first ship was lost in the bermudas (after 3 jobs) Shocked Shocked Shocked
and now (2005) my company has a value of $75 mio. (the value shown in high score)

the pricing is realistic but there are to much good jobs

(you only need one tanker in rotterdam to become a rich man)

yes I think thats really a problem, we work on the prices, very slowly each time, not to put all into bankrupt suddenly (as we had in an early stage),
we will introduce also a function which depends on the number of ships in the game and reduces the prices which is like competition...)

Instead of starting a game with $5K how about starting with a low cost ship and $1K?

I think, it is not generally too easy. There should just be more difference between beginner and expert mode. Sometimes it is really not too bad to get pretty rich in a reasonable time, for example when you play with a friend but don't have too much time. If margins are too low then it gets really boring as everyone is just shipping around with one or two ships.
So keep it like it is in beginner mode and make it harder in expert mode. Then everyone should have fun.

POC is to easy.

I started with 5 mio dollars in 2003 and now 6 years later i have 5x "Jahre Viking", 2x Super giant 8000, 12x Heavy Deluxe, 1 submariner and 2 liners.

Best regards

Wille

Perhaps it is also a good thing that it is so easy now .
(as long as it is beta)

You will go on faster in the game getting more ships and you will find errors faster and you get quicker ideas how to manage large fleets.

I think scripting as described in the thread "Ideas for some options" is a good way to do this. Very Happy

now try with 0.97.11 I changed the parameters, so for beginners its stil easier, but for experts might get though, also the total number of ships in the game is relevant -- so give me feedback on the new version !

I just got the update and I think the cargo amounts have been adapted to the biggest shipsize, so that's ok..! For this poll: I think there should be more expensive ships with higher speed, more reefers or larger tankers...
As i'm having an relatively old savegame, so with about 25 heavy de lux ships, it's just earning money(already having 1300 million) and waiting for new ships or new features(think about building own ships)
Conclusion: poc might be too easy right now, but maybe playing another difficulty could be an option...... Laughing

grtz from Rotterdam(why 'port of...'??)

yes when you load aon old game the new freight rates will show only after a while of playing (because all freights are stored), as soon as they are used up, it will get harder -- we will have more ships also, we just currently are busy in a redesign of the engines, I work on the 3d earth now, to removed the shockwave and decrease the cpu usage (though it might be increased only on rendering), we use a realtime raytracing approch now, and highres maps (4 times the res of the old), so you can zoom in more -- I will also change the world map then for a 4x zoom when I get rid of the shockwave part.

"(think about building own ships)"

This would be a cool option, planning your own ships and order it at a shipyard. Razz

yes it is implemented, but we have to think on the user interface (ship s can be included by adding to the ship.xml but we need a way to do it nice also for adding images thats possible, and the 3d part already is dynamically also.

I already recognized the ship.xml file and tried to import it with excel2000 and access2000 but neither worked.

Is there a way to do Question

you can use a nomal texteditor to handle this, theer are some xml tools around like xmlspy which can handle the format.
