In the beginning, buying a ship will earn me one bar of status. I know I can steer my ships into different docks for extra status. Secondly, I can rescue the shipwrecked for another status. Then, I can steer my ship around icebergs for yet another status. What other ways of earning status are there? _________________

First time you go around Kap Horn (South America) you get one status point.
Also, I recall that you get a point when you buy your first high-tech ship.

Thank you! If you discover or remember any additional ways of getting status, could you please post them here? _________________

You're welcome.
Just one thing - iirc you get one status point for each shipwrecked you rescue. otoh you lose one point every time you fail. I think the hardest part is to keep the speed and direction when you are near the raft. I often start to wiggle to ship around 'cause I think that I ain't near enough and then I either run in to the poor guy or he and I drift off the screen. But practice helps - I'm much better at it now although I suspect that with a real boat the chief would kill me for my abuse of the engines - all ahead full to get near and the all back full to slow down. In reality this would probably damage the propellers. Tip: save the game often so you can reload if you sink the raft.
But I love this game since I first played it on my friends Amiga in "the good old days". It doesn't matter that it doesn't at all make use of my fancy gfx-card and my cpu could do lots of other stuff and still make the game run. I can sit for hours and keep track of what ships I have going to Karachi and when I last visited Hong Kong or trying to decide if I should try to repair my shelled boat in Basrah or cut my losses and sell it - "of course, all you get is $1500 - the rest goes to the bank".

Thanks again! Yes, it can be difficult to rescue the shipwrecked, but with practice, I can do it half of the time. I loved this game since I started playing it on my old IBM 486SX. I sit for hours keeping track of what ships I have going to Cape Town and when I last visited Karachi or trying to decide if I should try to repair my damaged vessel in Vancouver or cut my losses and sell it.
That reminds me, which routes have the most shipwrecked? _________________

Ways to Gain Status :
- Rescue Shipwrecked
- Navigate through Ice Bergs
- Navigate through Coral Reefs
- Keep your ships well maintained 85% and above for pre owned, 100% for High Tech ships
- Keep a healthy bank balance and low mortgage
- Pay off your repayments on your ships fast
- Buy ships initially at the start when you get a good cash flow as this increases your asset levels and makes your company look more efficient.
(fully owned ships even at pre owned levels make your profit loss ratio look good).
- Visit your offices regularly as this reduces theft and also shows you run a tight ship both on and off the water. |

I've picked up a lot of shipwrecked near Cape Town. It's quite hard to do, but if I remember correctly you earn TWO status points if you make it! _________________ _______________________________________

I'd spend about 10M$ on large, pre owned ships.
These are, AFAIK, the most profitable around.

I would spend my money for the biggest ship i can get. I believe that in the end it is the best thing you can do. |

For every "new" port you stear by hand into tou will receive status points.
This will nly work the first time you visit a new port but still you can make plenty status points this way.... |
