|

Hello.. One thing which has bugged me for some time is the seemingly lack of the possibility to reserve TEU OR tons for a particular cargo.
You see, the ships has a TEU and a ton limit, and when you want to reserve containers (lets say from a stock of 8000 TEU, and 200000 tons)
to a ship which manages 8000 TEU, but only 167K tons then currently
some math is required to not reserve a too large cargo.
I wish it would be possible to set EITHER a TEU limit or a TON limit (two separate fields) to ease the overreserving when using containers.

I totally agree with you. As someone who very rarely uses containerships and prefers to stick with normal cargoships/bulkers, I don't like having to mess around working it out into teu. |

yes but for containers I think we must have a rounding then, as a 1teu cannot be unloaded in half or so. this is currently done for container ships, you can have 1 or 2 teu eg the equal tons for this freight but not a part for it,
for cargo ships parts are possible as they are not loaded in containers
currently we use the same freight market but this might change,
I can add a ton field for the contaienr, but then a rounding wil take place to eitehr the lower or next higher. |

It would be prefererable to have it round down (WHEN the tons is used),
because most likely, if a user uses the tons field (instead of the normal TEU) then that is the limiting
factor for the container ship not TEU.
Quite a few situations it would be handy. |

I made a simple tool myself in Fortran to prevent my ships of being overloaded.. But of course, it would be much easier to have this tool implemented in POC..
This should be one of the major tasks I guess.. _________________ FI FAEN |

I like it also when I have the choice between container or ton's, it is a lot practical for me

Hi,
I have discovered this thread in the archives.
Yet, with the latest update, it is still not posible to reserve freight on TEU or Ton.
is this idea being wastebinned?

It had been mentioned before, I assume it takes some serious
"squiggle" rearranging in the main files?
And like Robinhood, I seldom haul containers either... _________________ Frohe Reise, Bearsie. |

Lots of papers in front of me with tonns/TEU calculations. This feature would be a real help. |

It's an old discussion constantly coming up.
It would be really cool if RDK could update the freight system all together so we can have many more different load types and ship types (no more crude oil in a gas tanker etc).
And combine that with a new freight market system where you can reserve and load in the units of your ship.
So:
TUE in combination with TONS
TONS in combination with m3 (cubic meters)
etc. _________________ Freight Containers In The Port Of Antwerp |

yes,
so currrently there is a
<tonperteu>25</tonperteu>
which is also a measurement for the cm3 value,
we could split this off for example,
or we can add container freights as a seperate item with a fixed weight value (or range to be random),
I can also randomly assign the freights to be in containers or to be used for cargo ships without container ?! --
the oil etc have already flags to be used with the special ships, that needs to be redefined, also we need to seperate the beginner form expert level, as for beginners its to complicated to take care on the kind of freight for example. |

Not deeply thought about this, I'll try to give a more detailed opinion tomorrow, as it's quite difficult to sort this out at once, but my fast reaction:
What you need:
- weight per volume (m3 or teu, this can be converted in the program itself)
- per freight type a code in which vessel it can be loaded: for example: Steel -> conventional and container; cars -> roro and conventional; chemicals -> liquid tanker and container, etc etc
- more different freight type codes of course so we can split all different freight types, especially needed for tankers and bulk ships.
- if the program makes the freight list, it should automatically make a choice between the vessel type, so it can generate a steel freight for conventional ships and one for container ships, both based on the same material description.
- for each ship the type of cargo it can load and both cargo limitations: TEU and weight or m3 and weight.
- and maybe more points you need to change when you want to fully exploite this.
btw: is there a change we (actually you) can also implement something that you can't carry 2 different orders in a 1 compartiment tanker? _________________ Freight Containers In The Port Of Antwerp |

yes we might also need some new codes for the ships, like tankers (1 compartiment...). |

hi corne_mo,
it has to be possibile as there are tankers which have two different freight spaces to carry different loads (not crudeoil or gas carriers but carriers for anther chemicals).
greets,

What I ment is that you can't load 2 different goods in 1 compartiment.
For example: a 2 compartiment tanker with 2x 10.000 Tons can't load a chemical order of 15.000 tons and a oil order of 5.000 tons. _________________ Freight Containers In The Port Of Antwerp |
