Hello Everyone...
Since we are all introducing ourselves...
My name is Arjan van 't Hooft and I am 31 years old...
I work for P&O Ferries and I am currently assigned as Chief Officer on the "Pride of Bruges", a good size RORO ferry between Zeebrugge and Hull.
I graduated Marof in 1995 and was apprentice with Dockwise... In the mean time I have worked on some small coasters between ports on the North Sea and in Scandinavia. From 1998 to 2000, I was the only "Dutch" Navigation officer on Premier Cruises's "Rembrandt", The former ss Rotterdam. After Premier started to show signs of trouble, I joined the once so prestigious and dignified "Holland America Line".
I have always been interested in passenger ships as I grew up with them, my (now retired) father was one of the pioneers in the business of markteting and sales of cruise vacations in the Benelux.
I first encoutered the POC game when I studied in Ymuiden... Apparently it was not exactly the legal version... I've been holding the platinum licensence for a while now and commend the work done on the POC game and the 3DII Sim, I'll help as much as I can...
Greetings,
Arjan. _________________ Smack Middle in the Europoort... |

Hi All,
I'm Paul Thurston from Melbourne, Australia.
Been a fan of Ports of Call since I bought my Amiga 1000 way back in 1987.
I stumbled across this website and the new Port of Call and I am in the middle of downloading the new version.
If I get hooked again (and I'm sure I will) I will be purchasing the Platinum Licence.
This is one of the all time classic trading games.
Cheers,
Paul. |

G'day all
I am Brian Hendy
I live in the Blue Mountains, just west of Sydney, in Australia.
First encountered POC when a mate showed it to me on his Apple 2!! Tryimg to do the maths but it must have been very early 80's. Lost an aweful amount of time sitting at his place (as I didn't have a computer), pushing pushing to try to get one of those "new 40000 DWT's with a bow thruster". We were both well and truly hooked.
TIme passed and in the late 80's I stumbled across the DOS version. I assumed it was legal as I paid for it from a shop, it was boxed but apparently RDK received nothing from the distributor.
Computers came and went, latest running Windows XP, which of course took one look at the DOS 3.25" floppies and spat.
That's when I went searching the web, about a month ago, and found XXL. Bought the Platinum straight away. Games like this don't come around that often. How good are these people?
Not sure if Rolf or Martin have time to browse these forums but I hope they do, as it should provide a cetain amount of inspiration. 100's of people all enjoying their creation.
Bravo gents, a job very well done and one that you keep working hard at to make better.
I have nothing but admiration for the game you have created and your perseverance with it. Brilliant!!
Thanks for a job well done.
Brian

Hi
I'm Jonathon Pearce, 40+ years old and live in New Plymouth, New Zealand but am British by birth. (Dual Nationality now though).
First went to sea in '79 although worked on tugs etc earlier and was sailing a dinghy at 4years old. Started with BP Tankers and for next 15 years went through a number of companies as I rose through the ranks and they made me redundant. In '94 came ashore and am working as a harbour pilot at Port Taranaki.
Played a not so legit copy of the classic many years ago and then forgot about it until this year when I played Ship Simulator 2006. I thought about what had happened to POC so did a search and found the new version. Immediately bought Platinum to keep momentum going and to repay for my previous 'Black Patch' copy.
Keep up the good work.
Oh have you done a set of stats on your findings ? _________________ A l'eau. C'est l'heure!! |

Hello everybody!
This is a great topic for my first post.
My name is Hans (50+) and I played this game years ago with a good friend
of mine on his Amiga. A few weeks ago I ran into the POC site. I tried the
demo for an hour and after that I immediately bought a platinum license.
I now try to find my way around this forum.
Keep up the good work RDK

strangely, I thought, I would have here already perpetuated myself, probably not now: I am 53 and have more than 20 years ago wasted my C-64 into the ground for an AMIGA 500 to play POC. As then the Playstation came, was first times conclusion with ships. Sometime I had then also still a PC. When I heard in May 2006 coincidentally of a PC version, I again hired immediately. _________________ Seefahrt ist Not (Gorch Fock) |

Hello PoC'ers,
I'm new to this forum and like to introduce myself in this thread.
First: pleas do not *rofl* about my worse english writing
I try very hard, but in here, i think, it's better than writing in german.
My reallife name is Alexander and my home is in near Stuttgart, really far away from the next sea. My occupation is to deploy and produce electronics at a little company building lasersystems for enternainment.
I want to thank the makers of this amazing game for building 'gewaltfreie Spiele'! Also Bearsie, Stickymonk, CT and others sharing their selfmade vessels, ports and freights!
Have fun
