Now that I got rid of the stupid storms I have some ideas (based also on other people's suggestion in this forum) that I would like us to discuss.
The option of beeing able to build your own ships has be suggested some time ago, and as rdk wrote today, he's already working on it.
I want to write down some ideas I had:
How about being able to choose the features for your ship, like:
- length
- DWT
- TEUs
- Engines (thus speed)
- Bunker
etc.
here there should be limitation acording to DATE (no bow/Stern thrusters in 1975 for example) and of course between features (small engine cannot move hue ship etc.)
Futhermore, how about being able to INVEST in researching new features!!
Like for example the submarines we already have, but also in earlier dates things that exist today...
that could include:
- reseraching Cataman freighters and Liners
- submarines (after 2008)
- mixed cargo ships (like Rangar Spirit)
- special cargo ships
And at last, how about being able to own your Shipyard
that will allow you to research for your self and...
- sell ships to other players in the multiplayer modus
- get orders for ships etc.
I think there should be a required status level to be able to found a Shipyard.
This will bring new life to the game when the player has enough money and is getting tired to move ships and click "tug" buttons.
The whole think should cost A LOT OF MONEY! so you can only do it next to the main purpose of the game.
Waititng for some ideas on this and your votes for the idea. |

Yes, but I think that you should choose for example, the overall amount of TEUS, and you can get several designs. Also, after you build the ships, you could sell them or lease them to the computer to make money. _________________ Bring on the Great Lakes!

But that is not the idea of the game, to construct and sell ships.
But I do agree to the possibility to make your own ship.
But there is a lot of things that has to be thought of. A to small ship can't carry to much load and can't be to fast and the fuel consumption couldn't be to low. But all these things could be done with differnet formulas.
Anyone got any ideas on that? There has to be restrictions on what is possible, and those restrictions could change by time. This has to be thought thrue very carefuly before it can be done. _________________ Looking forward to the 1.0 v of POC XXL |

I even think it's a very nice option,go to a shipyard,give specifications
and receive messages like:
We are not able yet to construct this ship with our current technology
We think we might be able to construct this ship with the current technology but it's going to cost E .......... (very much)
if the ship's built then receive an enormous amount of status points
Yes,we can make your ship with our current technology with a price of
E..........(fair price)
selling this sort of ships shouldn't be profitonal
Or go to the shipyard with the option:
Upgrade ship:
What do you want to improve?
(Show list of possible upgrades)
How much do you want to invest in this upgrade? E.........(should be relative expensive
Answer: Possible/Not possible with this amount of money
I wan't customizing DAMMIT!  |

Actually, it is profitable if you do it right.
Imfdabo needs to understand that he's not going to like all of the ideas posted here. (He doesn't like 95% of them) That doesn't make them bad, just because Imfdabo said they are. _________________ Bring on the Great Lakes!

thoreson9: I'm not criticise all ideas, but you are the one giving the bad ones, that's why you get all the bad critic. BOY.
And I still don't think that you should be able to build and sell ships with a profit, the profit you make should come from delivering cargo and also from the stockmarket later in the game.

I have to admit,i had a lot of fun seeing this,but it's gotta stop somewhere
You both have different opinions about this game, which is only good for the big R, because there are alot of people with different wishes,and let's be fair,the big R is is trying to reach the widest audience possible,and therefore he cannot only see the wishes for just one person.
Oh,but this isn't a warning against both of you,i still would like to see both your opinions, but if one of you are pissed about something,please ignore the ones here on the forum. |

I have to agree totally with speedyy here. Please stop disputing personally on stupid details! If you have a look at the top of the topic, at the number of votes on this poll you will understand that a lot more people read this forum than write into in!
This must change! More people should be able to express themselves here!
It took me a couple of weeks since I started beeing active in the forum because I was intimidated from stupid and non-helpful critic from Imfdabo and everlasting replies from thoreson9.
RDK should think on this, how about moderating this forum more stricker?
There is also the possiblity of personal messages if you want to tell each other you don't like each other do it personally! This does not interst anybody else! |

Going back into the subject:
My original idea also included restrictions on what ships you can build.
Maybe I can be done like this:
1. Choose type of ship you want to build (tanker, container)
2. choose size (lenght, width) of ship
3. Be given from the programme ranges to choose fromto choose according to the size you chose.
This should include: TEUs and DWT, differnt engine types, etc.
3. the type of engine should dictate HP and Speed,
4. Size should give you a range for the bunker
5. technology used should give you fuel/usage
(I am sure someone with more knowledge in shipbuliding could provide formulas for this)
My idea was that at start you can order ship from existing technology,
after, when you establish your shipyard company you can invest in research of new techs.
The whole shipbuilding thing should be also profitable (at normal rates) but also you could make mistakes and create a ship that breaks up in te ocean for example.
(This has actually happened to Onassis with his super-tankers that were breaking in half because the were to long)
I believe that this whole shipyard option would provide diversity in the game and a very intersting part to the game (a lot more intersting than playing in the stock-market in my personal opinion)
It will also bring - in the future game - some advantages to the human player against the AI (if you make the correct choise of ship parts)
Please provide CONSTRUCTIVE comments on these ideas.

No, i'll try to be constructive, your idea looks good, but personally the idea of OWNING a shipyard doesn't feel very good to me,just because building ships and using them are two totally different things,i have worked as crew and also as a dockworker,so i know what i'm talking about,but i agree that there has to be more options when building a ship |

I think that research & devellopment, upgrade ships, Building and eventually selling ships is a good idea, it gives the game some extra business (in german: Abwechslung).
It's right that the game should be realistic, but its a GAME and if there are some options or extra features (a Submarine or upgrade your ships with better engines for more speed) why not. Everyone who don't like this features shouldn't use them. |

Ok I accept the point! Then you should not own a shipyard.
How about having status limits?
minimum status of 30 for example for new ship and min 40-45 for new research.
This makes sence because if you are not a serious bussiness no shipyard would take you seriously.
But I still believe you should be able to sell the ships you develop!! |
