... your idea looks good, but personally the idea of OWNING a shipyard doesn't feel very good to me,just because building ships and using them are two totally different things,...,but i agree that there has to be more options when building a ship
Ok I accept the point! Then you should not own a shipyard.
How about having status limits?
minimum status of 30 for example for new ship and min 40-45 for new research.
This makes sence because if you are not a serious bussiness no shipyard would take you seriously.
But I still believe you should be able to sell the ships you develop!!
Yes, options and succes must be status dependant, because the goal of reaching a high amount of money isn't a big problem
even your status indications are quite good
50 for research, 75 for hoovercraft technology(just an idea)and 100 for cheap fueled high performance engines for instance
I would even go further but i don't think RDKLEIN would implement a 4 MW Pulse Laser in the game a la ELITE |

I think there should be no status limits, becuase money makes the business. I you have the money you can do everything! Or not? |

In my opinion you have posted very intresting ideas!!!
But....
Shipowners in (real life) when they order a Newbuilding they choose the following main items:
1) Ship type -
(Bulk Carrier, Tanker, Liquid Petroleum Gas, Liquid Natural Gas, etc.)
2) Ship Size - (Depends on DWT of ship)
(Handy, Panamax, Suezmax, Very Large Crude Carrier, Ultra Large Clude Carrier, etc.)
3) Engine type - (Engine BHP depends on DWT)
(B&W Man, Sulzer, Mitsubishi, Pielstic)
When shipowner orders to a Shipyard a newbuilding cannot choose the length and/or beam of the vessel. This depends on DWT of vessel and it is up to naval architect to arrange the proportion Length-Beam. |

I beleive status is equal to reputation. It is implied (in most cases) that a shipowner who has billions and lots of ships has a good reputation and therfore a good status.
i.e. When your status is low banks cannot trust you and you cannot easily raise a mortgage.
i.e. Charteres will not trust you and wont get a good rate if your status is low. _________________ Best Regards,

@Panos
You're right but what if I have billions of cash but only a few statuspoints: I can pay my new ship - why shouldn't they build me a ship (the same for research).
I only think that it is not necessary to link 'build an new ship' with statuspoints. |

yes, we think about a refinement on this, but the only point is that if status is low, then there is no mortgage for example, so I can change the behavior a little bit. -- ideas: -- |

I agree with you.
If you have billions it would be nice to have also status points. _________________ Best Regards,

How about the effectifness of the comercials on the statuspoints.
Maybe if you just lost statuspoints because you sunk a ship the comercials should be non effective. _________________ Die Welt die wir geschaffen haben ist das Resulat einer überholten Denkweise

Is it also possible when you order one ship, to order several of them? For example, you order a 5,000 TEU ship. You then have a button to enter whether you want one ship, or ten ships of the same design. It's done all the time in real life. _________________ Bring on the Great Lakes!

Yeah I like the idea of ordering more ships of the same type for a discounted price!
And I think that should also work in KARA with the existing ships. |

Hi all,
From this thread I think people are generally interested in a shipbuilding option but afraid of inbalancing the game.
So why not have the game shipped with a standalone ship editor in a first phase. This way, the game itself stays as it is for now and when the ship editor has been thoroughly tested and discussed and is OK, it can be fully integrated into the game in a second phase ? Looks kindda same as 3D...
There could even be a shipyad section on the site, where players could upload their creations, to be used and reviewed by other players... _________________ @+
